Welcome to my personal journey of better health and wellbeing.
Disclaimer: straight off the bat – I am not qualified to give anyone advice. I am no guru or health professional expert.
What I am is, a chubby middle-aged maori fulla – who is taking stock halfway through his life and realising that there’s plenty of room for improvement (especially in terms of health and wellbeing).
Midlife crisis? Maybe… I’ve felt a little complacent since turning 40 (I’m 45) in regards to my fitness and overall health…it’s time to shake shxt up.
What’s this all about?
Well. I want to share my journey openly and honestly – my successes and failures – out there for all to see…warts’n’all. This is also a means of being accountable, there’s no hiding when it’s out there in public! But, the main reason is to share my experiences and knowledge, in the hope that it’ll useful to anyone who may read this.
How?
I want to take a whole person approach – this isn’t just about losing weight and eating healthy.
This is about being the best version of me, incorporating mind, body and spirit.
I have given myself 1 year (starting today 11th November 2018) to investigate and experiment with various techniques and concepts concerning health and wellbeing. I will be a guinea pig, a bio-hacker, a pupil.
There are a number of topics and challenges I wish to explore. Here’s a taste of a few:
- Maori health – the 4 cornerstones, Te Whare Tapa Whā.
- Improving sleep patterns
- Self improvement/reflection and journalling
- The science of staying hydrated
- Mobility
- Being stoked…a surfers perspective
- What is Pilates? What are the benefits?
- Gut health/Nutrition
- Losing weight – body type – metabolism
- The Truth about Sugar
- Meditation/Mindfulness
- Grit and Resilience
- Where’s your head at? Sport psych, performance and motivation.
- What is an Osteopath?
- The Power of Habit? Being disciplined.
- Acupuncture
- Types of workouts – cardio/strength/mobility/ aerobic and anaerobic
I’m happy to receive suggestions!
For now this serves as a starting point!
I’m not sure where this’ll end up, I have committed to blogging weekly. Once I’ve built up my confidence I’ll be video blogging (that kinda terrifies me..but should be pretty entertaining for you!).
I’m excited about this journey and also scared shxtless! That’s probably a good thing.
….let’s do this.
